What is the storage and shelf life of your products?
No special storage considerations are necessary for non-heat shrinkable tubing products, including flexible PVC, TPV (thermoplastic vulcanizate), TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), polyurethane, polyethylene, nylon, fluoropolymers, rubbers, and silicone. In general it is best to store these products in a cool dry location and away from exposure to sunlight.
The shelf life of our flexible PVC products is indefinite assuming storage conditions are relatively cool and dry. Prolonged exposure to a warm humid environment can cause hydrolysis in some of our materials. Also, UV exposure can degrade the properties as well as exposure to fluids that may extract plasticizer out of the compound such as hydrocarbon solvents, fuels, or lubricants (unless the product is specifically designed to resist these fluids). A basic inspection of the product is a good indication of whether it has sustained any damage due to poor storage conditions. The product should not have discolored, stiffened, or become gummy on the surface. In general, if the tubing looks and feels like normal, then it will perform like normal.

Simply contact us to discuss your requirements. We'll guide you through the entire process, from initial concept to final production, ensuring a solution that perfectly fits your needs.
Can I use additional adhesive on my adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing or with PVC heat shrink tubing?
Yes, you can. Our MELT-WRAP is a polyamide hot-melt adhesive that is ideal for these situations.
Supplied as a flat strip measuring 2" wide and 0.012" thick (50mm wide and 0.3mm thick), MELT-WRAP can easily be cut to the required size using scissors or automated cutting equipment. The adhesive strip is then wrapped around or placed between the wires or other substrates to be sealed before installing a length of heat shrinkable tubing (either PVC or polyolefin) over the wrap. Applying heat causes the tubing to shrink and the adhesive to melt and flow, forming an environmental seal. The adhesive bonds readily to PVC, polyolefin, and EVA, as well as bare copper and aluminum.

Safety & Environment
Do you provide IMDS submissions?
Yes, Grayline can provide IMDS information upon request. IMDS stands for the International Material Data System (www.mdsystem.com). It is a database available on the web, developed by the automotive industry. Suppliers enter information about the substances that comprise the parts they make, and this information is then submitted for others to view and use.
Substances that must be declared include any basic materials that are on the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List (GADSL)(www.gadsl.org). This list includes all substances which the automotive industry has determined it needs to know in order to comply with all governmental regulations world-wide.
Grayline maintains entries in this database and these can be forwarded to customers upon request. We can also provide other hazardous material reports, if needed.

What is RoHS and is your tubing compliant?
The acronym stands for Restriction Of Hazardous Substances. RoHS (EU Directive 2002/95/EC), RoHS2 (EU Directive 2011/65/EU) and RoHS3 (EU Directive 2015/863) are European Union laws that prohibit the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP in electrical products sold in the EU.
All of our tubing is RoHS compliant and does not contain any of the prohibited substances.

What is REACH and does your tubing contain any REACH SVHCs?
REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) is a European Union regulation (2006/1907/EC) that requires that chemical substances used or imported into the EU be registered, evaluated and authorized for specific uses. As a manufacturer of “articles”, Grayline is not required to register any substances.
The regulation also defines Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC’s) which must be reported to users. As of June 2024, there are 241 SVHC substances defined. Only one of these SVHC substances is used in some of Grayline’s PVC compounds. This is a UV additive, UV-328. See Grayline’s REACH policy for more details.

Manufacturing capabilities
Can Grayline manufacture custom diameters and wall thicknesses?
Yes, we can. As a manufacturer, we aren'tlimited to "stock" sizes. If your application would benefit from anon-standard diameter or wall thickness, we can help. We have the tooling andmanufacturing process capabilities to extrude tubing in a continuous range ofdiameters and are not limited to the sizes of existing "hard"tooling. Visit our Custom Solutions page to learn more
Do you offer custom color matching services?
Yes, we do. Many of the polymers we use to manufacture flexible tubing can readily be custom colored, including both opaque and transparent polymers. Since Grayline blends our own colored compounds, we can use the appropriate pigment additives to match other parts in an assembly, match or coordinate with your corporate color scheme, or give you just the right shade of color for that critical aesthetic application.
Can Grayline provide me with small quantities of custom colors or sizes of heat shrinkable POLYOLEFIN tubing?
Yes, we can provide your tubing in boxes, heat sealed bags, on reels, or in coil form. We can also provide customer-specific labeling, including bar coding.
Will Grayline cut tubing to length for me?
Absolutely! Many customers prefer to have us cut their tubing for them. This not only helps reduce costs but also provides straighter and rounder lengths of tubing than cutting from reels. We regularly ship tubing cut to lengths ranging from 1/8 of an inch to 10 feet.
Can Grayline print and/or hot stamp on their tubing?
Yes, we can. We have inkjet printing capabilities that allow for in-line, dot-matrix style printing during the extrusion process. Additionally, we offer hot stamping services for both text and company logo images.
Can Grayline shape, or heat form, tubing for me?
Yes, we can. We welcome the opportunity to review your part design to determine if a heat-formed tubing part might be the right solution. Similar to pre-shaped radiator hoses in automobiles, heat-formed tubing shapes help precisely route fluids, wires, and other components around obstacles. This process reduces the likelihood of kinking and enhances the overall appearance of the installation.
Can Grayline extrude any non-circular profiles?
Yes, we can. We can create tubing with various cross-sections, such as oval or "D" shapes. Additionally, we can incorporate internal ribbing to improve gripping ability over a substrate or external ribbing to provide a better surface texture.
Can you manufacture tapered tubing?
Yes, we can. By accurately controlling the extrusion parameters, we can manufacture tapered tubing, which is sometimes used in a "daisy chain" fashion, typically in medical applications. There are physical limitations on the amount of taper that can be incorporated into a design, so please contact us to discuss the requirements of your application.
Can Grayline provide special packaging?
Yes, Grayline can provide your tubing in boxes, heat sealed bags, on reels, or in coil form. Grayline can also provide customer-specific labeling, including bar coding.
Will Grayline perform subassembly work for me?
Yes, we can provide you with subassemblies that incorporate tubing and other components. For example, we assemble fittings onto spiral-reinforced hoses to provide prepackaged hose assemblies ready for shipping. Additionally, we insert long lengths of PVC tubing into equal lengths of braided fiberglass sleeving for another customer. Please contact us to discuss your specific assembly needs.
Do you offer multiple tubes bonded together, side by side?
Yes, we can thermally bond tubing to tubing, as well as tubing to cable, to provide a neat and compact assembly. Please contact us with the specific requirements of your application.
